Joaquim Tenreiro
Joaquim Tenreiro (1906-1992) is without doubt one of the pioneers of Modernist Brazilian furniture design.
Born in Portugal, he moved to Brazil in 1928. He worked as a furniture designer for various manufacturers and subsequently founded his own company, Langenbach and Tenreiro, in the early 1940s.In the 1950s his work increasingly gained recognition and Tenreiro started a steady collaboration with Oscar Niemeyer designing linear and essential furniture for new contemporary homes. |

In 1967 he decided to dedicate his time exclusively to fine arts and became internationally known also as a painter and sculptor.
The father of modern furniture design in Brazil, Joaquim Tenreiro left an important legacy of elegance, personal style and innovation. |
