Joaquim Tenreiro
Joaquim Tenreiro (1906-1992) is without doubt one of the pioneers of Modernist Brazilian furniture design.
Born in Portugal, he moved to Brazil in 1928. He worked as a furniture designer for various manufacturers and subsequently founded his own company, Langenbach and Tenreiro, in the early 1940s.In the 1950s his work increasingly gained recognition and Tenreiro started a steady collaboration with Oscar Niemeyer designing linear and essential furniture for new contemporary homes.

In 1967 he decided to dedicate his time exclusively to fine arts and became internationally known also as a painter and sculptor. The father of modern furniture design in Brazil, Joaquim Tenreiro left an important legacy of elegance, personal style and innovation.
